In line with KCGM's commitment to the community the company has a 24-hour Public Inquiry Line or more commonly know as PIL. The purpose of the line is to enable members of the community to contact KCGM on a wide range of issues including but not exclusive to emergencies, complaints inquiries and feedback. Both the public and employees (including contractors) are encouraged to use the Public Inquiry Line on any matter relating to the operations. It is a particularly important avenue for capturing those issues which require follow up and action in an efficient, timely manner.

PIL is backed up by an electronic database which enables the categorisation of queries and the automation of subsequent action allocation and follow-up mechanisms.

This feedback from the Inquiry Line system is very effective in helping to make KCGM aware of issues that are concerning the community for example dust and blasting. Awareness of any problem means that KCGM can then facilitate a solution to the concern.

During business hours, the inquiries are forwarded immediately to the relevant department supervisor to take the required action. Incoming calls received outside office business hours may be forwarded to the shift supervisor for immediate action or where appropriate will be followed up the next working day.

Contact is also made with any member of the community, employee or contractor who calls PIL to inform the caller of action taken or if required, to rectify the situation. KCGM responds to all people who contact the inquiry line either by phone or in writing. Direct personal contact follows, depending on the nature of some inquires.

The Public Inquiry Line number is (08) 9022 1100 and is manned 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. The opening of the Super Pit Shop now provides another avenue where public inquiries can be made in person. Where possible the inquiry is dealt with immediately, otherwise it is logged in the electronic database and the same process is followed as detailed above.
