KCGM sponsors a range of organisations around the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder. In this section, we outline some of these programs and how they are going.

Heart Foundation Goes Red for Women

 

Go Red For Women is the Heart Foundation’s campaign to raise vital funds for research and education into women and heart disease.

KCGM sponsored the Goldfields Women’s Health Care Centre’s function for this campaign. The sundowner was an exciting awareness-raising function at the Hannans Club on Friday June 13 2008. The initiative focused on empowering women with the knowledge to care for their tickers and reduce the risk of serious illness.

 

KCGM sponsored the event by providing venue hire, catering and Super Pit merchandise as prizes on the night. In all, KCGM’s sponsorship for the event was valued at $1,250.

In support of the Anzac Day Service, KCGM sponsored the Return Services League Kalgoorlie sub-branch by providing $500 for the dawn service breakfast.

Western Australian School of Mines Scholarship Prize
 
KCGM sponsored the WASM 2008 scholarship evening by donating $150 for a scholarship prize. KCGM also sponsored this same event in 2007, and the WASM wombats in 2006 for their Mining Games to the value of $5000.

Kalgoorlie Boulder Community Fair continue to make a blast

 

KCGM have continued their donation of $5,000 for the 6th year in 2008, to cover the costs for the fireworks display at the Kalgoorlie-Boulder Fair Community Fair. The fireworks are the grand finale of the 2 day local annual fair, held at the Cruikshank sports arena.

Gold Sponsor of the Kalgoorlie Goldfields Visitor Centre
 
A major supporter of Kalgoorlie Tourism, KCGM has been a Gold sponsor of the Kalgoorlie Visitor Centre since 2004. KCGMs sponsorship committment of $10,000 assists with the annual running of the free information centre. In 2007, additional funds of $10,0000 were also provided for the relocation of the Visitor Centre to the historical Kalgoorlie Town Hall. The relocation has providing a spacious and relaxed atmosphere for their visitors, with more than 120,000 people entering their doors seeking information on the Goldfields each year.

Annual St Barbaras Day Major Sponsor

 

St Barbara’s Day is an annual local event celebrating St Barbara, the patron saint of Miners’ and is a hugely popular community event.

 

KCGM has been a major sponsor and participant of the St Barbara’s Day Parade for a number of years, which includes a $7,500 sponsorship and providing the large mining equipment, which is one the parade’s biggest draw cards. The main street of Kalgoorlie becomes a hive of activity as the parade goes down Hannan Street, with KCGM’s massive 793C Mine Truck the finale of the parade, even stopping to tip it’s tray.

Eastern Goldfields BMX Club on new track

 

The Eastern Goldfields BMX Club has been running for 26 years and is located in Marshall Street between the Tennis club and Morrison oval.  With approximately 80 riders aged between 4 and 40 plus, the club runs during school terms. 

 

The $1,500 sponsorship received from KCGM was used to resurface the track with ‘cracker dust’ and to purchase general maintenance items to keep the track in good condition, like hoses, rakes, shovels and brooms.  The track was resurfaced prior to our club hosting Round 5 of the WA BMX State Super Series.  At this event we had 35 of our junior riders and 7 seniors compete against the best on offer from around WA.  It was the first time many of our junior riders had got the chance to compete at this level.

 

The Eastern Goldfields BMX Club wishes to thank KCGM for their on going support of BMX. KCGM have been a sponsor for several years, which is greatly appreciated by everyone involved with the sport.  KCGM’s contribution has helped considerably as the committee strive to develop the BMX facility and lift the profile of the sport in the Goldfields region.

Little Sisters of the Poor

 

Little Sisters of the Poor Nursing Home were the beneficiary of $4,000 which was used to buy two ‘care chairs’ which assists the elderly residents. “It’s really fantastic to be the recipient of the money, as the chairs greatly help improve the quality of life of the users,” said Jenni Lys, Director of Nursing. 

 

“On behalf of the Sisters, Residents and staff of Little Sisters of the Poor Nursing Home, I would like to take this opportunity to thank your company for the kind donation of $4,000 for the purchase of a ‘care chair,’ Sister Geraldine (Mother Superior, Little Sisters of the Poor Nursing Home) said.

1st Boulder Scouts Fence It In

 

KCGM"s $3000 sponsorship assisted the 1st Boulder Scouts build a brand new fence to help make their Scout Hall and facilities more secure.

 

After hearing about the numerous break-ins at the 1st Boulder Scout hall, bus and caravan, the committee applied to KCGM for sponsorship funds to build a new fence at the grounds.  The sponsorship from KCGM has enabled the Scout group to replace the old wire fence with a more secure trim deck fence.  This new fence has given the scout hall and yard much needed security and a facelift, also ensuring the safety of the Scouts and equipment utilised by them. A very busy two days was spent pulling down the old wire fence, trimming up trees and putting up the trim deck fence, with all hands on deck from Scout members and parents.

The Palace

The Palace Recreation Theatre has inline skating every Friday night where kids 12 years and older can skate to their hearts content.

 

KCGM"s sponsorship of $3,500 was utilised to purchase 40 pairs of new inline skates to meet the demand from the increased popularity of the Friday night skating. "Previously youths where being turned away due to insufficient skates to hire or there not being big enough skates for older teenagers. This sponsorship has had a tremendous impact," said Anne Petz the Boulder Promotion and Development Association Coordinator.

Talent Quest

KCGM was proud to sponsor the inaugural Ninga Mia Talent Quest Show over a September weekend. 12 entrants and three bands battled it out for a variety of prizes over the Friday and Saturday night. 
 

“It was a great night, everyone enjoyed it and people are asking if we are having it again. A lot of people from town and out of town commented and said it was well done and hope to see more of this in the future,” said Pearl Scott, Manager of Ninga Mia

 

“I and the committee and the Ninga Mia Community would like to give a big Thank You to KCGM for all the help that you gave for the talent show.”

 

 


Well Man-Men's Health  (Thursday, 31 Aug 2006)

Well Man

On the 31st of August 2006 KCGM’s sponsorship played an integral role in the Men’s Health Night. The evening included presentations from three doctors all speaking of different topics for men’s health.

 

Goldfields men were given the opportunity to understand the health issues affecting them and increase the responsibility of men caring for their own health. KCGM helped make this possible,” said David Kennedy Chairman of Goldfields Men’s Health Inc.

 

Through KCGM’s support of Men’s Health Night it will help achieve Goldfields Men’s Heath vision of Goldfields men being healthy, happy, fit and well-informed.

Art Exhibition

The exhibition is a celebration of Aboriginal art and culture by artists currently or previously employed by the Community Development Employment Program in the Goldfields.

 

KCGM has committed $5,000 to enable the art exhibition to see fruition.

 

Wayne Combo, Nooda Ngulegoo general manager said “The aim is to help promote the artists, help them get commissioned work so instead of living from assistance and spending time at CDEP they can have a job creating and selling their own work.”

 

“There is a lot of talent out there.” There are 83 works on display and more waiting in the storeroom from artists in the Goldfields and through to the Lands.”

 


Helping Indigenous Parents Support Talent  (Saturday, 17 Jun 2006)

HIPSTAR

 

Originally HIPSTAR asked KCGM for a financial donation to fund printing 10 class sets of 25 student booklets “Changes at our Place” and 10 matching poster packs to promote local history and cultural identity. Instead KCGM found a more efficient and effective action and offered to print the student booklets on their printer.

 

Through this partnership it will allow HIPSTAR “to enhance their students understanding of society and the changes that have taken place. We are VERY grateful for KCGM’s support,” said Catherine Bishop the HIPSTAR facilitator.

Flipper Ball

KCGM has allocated $1,500 towards Flipper Ball which is a modified game of water polo for kids. Flipper Ball helps the development of children greatly promoting team building, communication and leadership skills with these traits being valued in any sector of society.

 

KCGM sponsorship will be used to purchase junior balls and caps for Flipper Ball. Due to the sponsorship, the fees for joining Flipper Ball are kept to a minimum.

 

The fees are minimal and it keeps kids fit, healthy and also provides a great forum for them to make new friends,” said Flipper Ball President, Frances Pratt. 


Eastern Goldfields Hockey Association  (Wednesday, 26 Apr 2006)

Hook in2 Hockey

KCGM has kindly donated 1,500 to the junior sports fund of the Eastern Goldfields Hockey Association. KCGM’s sponsorship will be used to purchase hockey sticks, balls and shin guards all necessary to run the junior hockey programme Hook in2 Hockey.

 

The programme is designed to offer 5-11 year olds a safe and fun introduction to the game of hockey. Through KCGM sponsorship it has allowed the cost of joining Hook in2 Hockey from $40-$30 for participants.

 

Eastern Goldfields Hockey Association Manager Chris Hick has been overseeing the programme “Given the great response we expect the number to go even as high as 250 which is fantastic,” said Chris.

NARA

NARA is an organisation that care, rehabilitate and release wildlife. They work with rare and endangered animals and do Landcare promotion for sustainability and biodiversity. They also have education opportunities and personal development programmes. NARA is committed to the area of indigenous education, training and employment initiatives.

 

KCGM has donated $5,000 per annum in Veterinary bill support for rehabilitation wildlife organisations since 2000. 

 

At the end of 2005, KCGM made a further commitment of $10,000 per annum for the next three years to help further develop NARA activities in the area of Indigenous education and employment. Part of this has been in providing material support for the Green Corps Team.

 

Green Corps, is a Federally funded training program to develop skills by working on various rehabilitation schemes, and NARA has successfully utilised their manpower to start construction of a track to the gnamma (rock) hole, and laying out new water supply pipes on the NARA sanctuary just out of Coolgardie.
